Jalaini Abu Hassan (b. 1963, Selangor) is a contemporary artist whose works are inspired by current events, expressed in local and familiar imagery and focused through his personal lens of nostalgia and history. Educated at MARA Institute of Technology (now UiTM), where he obtained his bachelor’s degree, he continued his education at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and Pratt Institute in New York, where he obtained his Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts respectively. Acclaimed at home and internationally, he has held solo exhibitions in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the USA.


His previous solo exhibitions include: Siang & Malam: The Landscape in Mind, The Edge Galerie, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2016); Picturing Painting, Segaris Art Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2015); Painting Industry, Equator Art Projects, Singapore (2015); Dato’ Rock, Art Printing Works, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2014); Bingkai Berangkai, Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2012); Lines of Thought 1992-2011: Drawings by Jalaini Abu Hassan, Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011); and Bangsawan Kebangsaan, Tyler Rollins Fine Art, New York, USA (2011).
